The last few months I have really tried to be intentional about what I am doing. I want to have purpose with my life. It is too easy to be in a comfort zone, living the day to day, not really going anywhere. But I have goals and things I would like to do! Not to mention live out the purpose that God has created me for. We are not called to be stagnant, we are to be transformed and renewed, to press on towards the goal (not just our own)! So how do we move forward? We have to be intentional. Life doesn’t just happen. Sure, we can be unexpectedly blessed, but we also have to put in the effort to get where we are going.
So, I would like to share a little bit of what I’ve personally have been going through recently.
After years of walking around in a desert not knowing what my purpose is, or even who I was as an individual, let alone a chosen child of God, through my healing journey and through my intentions of discovery, I now have a better idea of who I am, whose I am, and my purpose. It was a long journey, and I’m still on the path of healing, moving forward, and growing. Life is a continuous journey, it is Unlimited.
As you may know, I am now a Life Coach, and I am currently working towards becoming certified to have my credentials. I started taking courses back at the end of 2020 and since then have been working on building my business and growing in my knowledge and skills as a Life Coach. There has been a lot of change (personally) over these last couple years, mostly manageable, but at times overwhelming. I had a lot going on, so it was more difficult to try and add more to my plate. But these last few months I’ve really been intentional about how I am going to grow my business, on top of developing as a Life Coach, as well as my personal growth. I truly enjoy coaching! It’s so rewarding to see the people I work alongside with make changes in their lives and seeing the fruit of it. I know this is where God has me, and it’s part of the vision. I want more of it! I want it to be my full-time job! (I currently have 2 other jobs apart from coaching) But if I’m not intentional about it, it’s not going to go anywhere.
So where to start?! I am a believer and follower of Christ, so I am going to start in prayer! God is my director and my provider. I believe if my intention and purpose is to glorify God in what I do here on earth, I should confide in the one who is above it all. We all know prayer to be the answer, but sometimes we fall short and miss the conversations we should have with God in our time of prayer. We should be able to bring to Him our requests and desires. He wants us to connect with Him and tell Him all that’s on our heart, even though He already knows. So, I began with prayer.
Now that I have discovered and created some useful tool as a coach, how great is it that I can use them for myself as well! When I first heard about the Life Balance tool, I hated it! I didn’t understand the presentation of the tool given to me. I didn’t fill it out and I removed it from my collection of possible tools I would want to use with my clients. Then months later through a different course, it was presented to me in a different way, I understood it, I used it, and I loved it. Now it’s my number one tool to use not only with all of my clients, but for myself! The Life Balance tool is presented as a wheel, divided into different categories of your life (imagine a pie cut into slices). We have our life as a whole, but then we have different areas, such as our physical health, mental health, spiritual health, finances, career, social life, physical environment, and relationship. There are other categories and sub-categories, but these are the main ones I like to focus on. So now we have this tool and then we are to take each category and assess how well we feel we are doing in each area. The idea is to have a balanced wheel, so that if you were to roll the wheel it would roll smoothly? If you could imagine a pie where a slice is missing and a few other pieces have been bitten into, you’d see that it doesn’t look very balanced or whole. In order to have a balanced wheel, or life, you’ll want to look at each area and see what’s missing or what needs to change. It’s then where you can determine where you want to be and the action step you need to create to get there.
Ok, back to me!
By utilizing this tool on a regular basis, I can see what areas of my life I’d like to work on and what areas are a priority. For the purpose of this blog, I’d like to focus on the area of my career, building my business and skills as a Life Coach. I see what I need to work on, most specifically my time! Where and how am I going to find and create the time to work on coaching?! For about a month I was praying for an opportunity for more time in my schedule to carve out that I could dedicate strictly for working on my coaching. I already was working a partial day on Thursday’s from my fulltime job, so it came to me, maybe I could make a way to not work there on Thursdays. I continued to pray about it, and then an opportunity happened that I felt God was making a way for that to be possible. I went to my boss and discussed it with her, and she approved. This was great! I now had some more time carved out that I could focus more on my business! Not even 2 days later I had more people seeking coaching! Then within the next week I had a couple opportunities for group coaching (which I love doing!).
(But then) Isn’t it funny how God works sometimes? Your prayers aren’t always answered the way you thought they would be… I was pulled for a meeting at my fulltime job saying our hours were being cut down to only working Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This was not what I was looking for when I had started praying about creating more time for my coaching. My full-time job which I need to support me financially was being cut? I am good about not panicking in situations like this, but could you imagine the thoughts that were running through my mind?… But then I am reminded, God is looking out for me. He is providing what I need, and I have to trust that. As a steward, I have to do what I need to get through this, because God will provide. He’s not going to leave me hanging. Look at what He did just a few weeks before. He is faithful. God did not lead me here to abandon me. And I know I am where I am because of His provisions. Three years ago, I would have never thought I’d be on the path that I am today. I was going to be a counselor, no, I was going to be in management, no, maybe I am going to be a counselor, or you know I’d be a good entrepreneur. I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life, until I sought out my purpose, I was intentional. I am a Life Coach, and I am confident in that. And even now, since that meeting a couple weeks ago, I have been given even more opportunities to grow for my business and for myself (as a coach and as an individual). Now I am able to set specific time aside just for coaching, and I have more open availability for clients to fill sessions. I am and will use that time too. I am being intentional.
All this to say. I started with intentions. My intentions were to rely on God (your intentions might look and start different than mine), to trust that He will provide what I need and when I need it, but to be intentional about what I am doing. It can be difficult at times; I’m not going to lie. But wow, look at where things are today! I couldn’t have imagined. And in this last month there has been a lot of change. I could look at it and think my life was falling apart and how am I ever going to make it financially with such a cut in my hours. But I’m not. This is the opportunity that’s been created for me. He is making a way when I could feel like there is no way. I am going to be intentional in putting in the time and effort, and we will see where this takes me. Life Coaching will become my full-time job. And I can’t wait!!
(P.S. I am currently creating curriculum for group coaching called Intentions: Life Balance. Please keep a look out for when I’ll be offering it and for when I have more details. It’s looking like it’ll happen starting in August and will run for 6 sessions. If you are interested, please comment below or contact me and I can let you know directly when I have more detail.)
I hope some of what I share could be some sort of encouragement to you, that you would feel the desire to move forward with intention. Intentions are only good if they are put into action.
